Everyone has been in the situation where no matter how much clothes you have on you just can’t get warm right? Geeze, those boots said they were at least -40!! Chances are, its those cotton undies and socks. The majority of people who complain of cold are still wearing those old school cotton undies and white cotton socks from the Wally Mart! There are soooo many new fantastic baselayers to choose from with moisture wicking tech and natural fibers to keep you non stinky and WARM.
What you want to look for in a baselayer is something with moisture wicking materials and fiber additives to keep you cozy. Polyester is still the number one choice for manufacturers, as its inexpensive and does the job in pulling moisture away from the body while your moving around. Brands like Hot Chilly’s and Kombi make baselayers with a little bit of stretch so they are comfortable and are inexpensive for people who are on a budget but still need a good base layer. Helly Hansen uses polypropelene, a man-made fibre that enhances moisture wicking with little pockets inside the garmemt that pulls moisture away and disperses it through the fabric, but locks body heat in. Smartwool uses the best cold weapon on the planet which is (you guessed it) WOOL. Its anti-microbial (meaning there’s no stink), exceptionally warm, and with soft merino wool blends who wouldn’t want to wear it?
All base layers should be washer and dryer friendly, providing you have a low heat setting on your dryer. There are many different fits, colors and styles to choose from. Sexy baselayers have now become the choice for any ski or snowbord enthusiast while sipping a bevy apres their day on the hill.
